HI EVERYBODY!!
First thing every morning on board the Ocean Princess, Phil and Angie would find a newsletter called the Princess Patter, which would tell them about the days' activities. So they decided to do that for you here. Pretty clever huh.
See
you later!
Day 3 - Ketchikan, Alaska, United States
September 4, 2000
First port of call for our Alaskan cruise was Ketchikan, Alaska, United States.
Pulling
into Ketchikan, Alaska. Referred to as the first city of Alaska. Most
likely named that since it's the southern most point to Alaska,
so was the first place settled. |
Nice
big lighted banner reminding you of where you are. In case you
forgot. |
No
streets going through the town to speak of. The rock is too tough.
So steps are cut out to each house. One house has over 200 steps! |
Preparing
to dock at Tongass Wharf. |
The
Lincoln Park Pirates would have a field day here! |
Looking
lengthways down the starboard bow, towards the stern of Ocean Princess. |
A
thick blanket of mist and rain covers the town about 260-300 days a
year. |
All
lines are secure. |
So
let me get this straight, it's raining out and I have to wash the windows? |
Our
first contact with the "outside" world is at Soapy's Internet,
hidden behind a tourist trap shop. |
We've
got mail! And we sent some too. |
Shot
these next two from Soapy. The flowers were across the street. |
An
interesting mix of hard rock and soft flora. |
Remember
the lifeboat we saw last night? |
First
class, yes ma'am. Right this way. |
Taking
on supplies and what not. |
This
tunnel supposedly goes all over the place; up, down, in and out.
Kinda like Wacker Drive at home! |
Our
tow. |
Buh
bye! |
I
shoot you... |
...and
you shoot me! |
Behind
the glass elevators on deck 5. This is a place to meet, have a
drink, people watch or just relax. |
On
the upper floors where the glass elevators go, are these really cool
stained glass ceilings. These are on decks 6 and 7. |
A
close up look at the one on deck 6. |
Above
the glass elevator lobby on deck 8. |
The
winds were blowing hard enough to send the water from the pool over
its embankment onto the deck. The water in the splash pool behind
it was going about 4-5 feet above its walls also! |
