HI EVERYBODY!!
First thing every morning on board the Ocean Princess, Phil and Angie would find a newsletter called the Princess Patter, which would tell them about the days' activities. So they decided to do that for you here. Pretty clever huh.
See
you later!
Day 4 - Juneau, Alaska, United States
September 5, 2000
Our second port of call was Juneau, the capital city of Alaska.
Approaching
Juneau Harbor, early Tuesday morning. |
Looking
more like a flying saucer amidst the fog, is the Horizon Court buffet
room, deck 14 forward. |
Upper
tram dock, sitting atop an abandonded gold mine. |
The
fog moves in very thick and quick here. |
The
tree in the mist couldn't have been more then 50 feet away. |
Two
tram cars operate simultaneously, one goes up while the other goes down. |
Just
peeking out of the mist is our ship. |
Behind
the upper tram dock is a small hiking area. |
On
one of the hiking trails, are several small totems or living trail markers.
Each one is carved into a live tree. |
This
one is called The Messenger. |
Farther
down the trail is another of the living totems. |
This
one is called The Caretaker. |
Like
peaking through a steamed window... |
...that
just as quickly fogs up again. |
Much
farther up Juneau Harbor, where the big boats can't travel. |
Which
means our way in is also our way out. |
As
the mist began to clear, we got great overhead shots of the Ocean Princess
at dock. |
Our
floating home the past 4 days...with the best yet to come. |
Still
womewhat shrowed in mist are the mountains behind Juneau. |
Some
things you just can't explain, you just have to see them. |
To
take a virtual tour of the Ocean Princess bridge, click on the picture
above. |
While
we were out, our stateroom door was once again decorated. This
time for our anniversary. |
Since
the fog lifted, Angie went out on deck to read while I headed back up
the tram. |
Another
couple of great overhead shots of our ship. |
The
pool deck, also known as Riveria Deck..AKA Deck 14. |
Our
older sister ship, the Regal Princess. |
Sister
ships Ocean and Regal, Princesses all. |
A
clearer view of the opening of Juneau Harbor... |
..as
well as the narrower northern part. The reason the big boats can't
go up there is a bridge that the cruise ships would not fit under. |
The
mountain directly behind the upper tram dock. |
A
closeup. |
Harborside
view of the same mountain. |
A
very surreal reminder that we are in a whole different land. |
Told
ya so. |
What
more can I say. |
The
upper tram dock at night. |
