HI EVERYBODY!!
First thing every morning on board the Ocean Princess, Phil and Angie would find a newsletter called the Princess Patter, which would tell them about the days' activities. So they decided to do that for you here. Pretty clever huh.
See
you later!
Day 6 - Glacier Bay, Alaska, United States
September 7, 2000
Our first of two days in the Alaskan glaciers was spent in Glacier Bay.
Our
first look at Glacier Bay. |
A
misty shrowd is lifted to unveil a lush green mountain side. |
Still
fairly overcast. |
Where
is that damn Bailey's and hot chocolate? |
These
huge snowcaps are incredible to see, even from 20-30 miles out. |
Lamplough
Glacier, one of two glaciers here. |
Margerie
Glacier. This is the more appealing to look at of the two. |
Closer
view of Margerie Glacier. |
Another
snowcap. |
Closer
view of Lamplough Glacier. The banded colors is from dirt and
rock being dug up and compacted into the ice as it moves towards the
bay. |
Believe
it or not, this shot was taken from 5 miles out. |
The
reflection of Margerie Glacier in the bay waters is like a mirror image. |
Another
closeup of Margerie Glacier. |
Tight
shot of a snow cap. |
Far
right end of Margerie Glacier. |
Long
shot of Margerie Glacier showing her feed from deep in the mountains. |
Like
peeking through a fuzzy blanket. |
Great
carving job. |
Same
snowcap, but showing the top of Margerie Glacier. |
Heading
back out of Glacier Bay. |
This
valley was undoubtably carved out by a long gone glacier. |
As
were these carvings. |
The
haze on the water is silt and debris from the glacier depositing it
into the bay. |
One
last look at Lamplough Glacier. |
Can
we go now..it's cold out here! |
This
could be almost anywhere. |
One
last look at Glacier Bay. |
It's
lower 50's and he's wearing shorts! |
